The role will support Crossroads Care Surrey by providing companionship support to people who are isolated at home and dependent on carer support from a friend or family member. You will provide support, conversation and companionship to people that are sick, disabled, or infirm. They may be coming to the end of their life and have been isolated or shielding at home during the Covid-19 lock down, with few people to talk to but their carer.
As a Volunteer, you would provide companionship to someone being cared-for, while at the same time offering their carer a short break. You will engage the cared-for person in conversation or activities (puzzles, games, crosswords, soduku, garden centre visits, coffee shops etc).
Companionship would be provided in people’s homes, or in the local community, during visits of between 1-3 hours. We will provide you with full PPE, including face shields, masks and gloves, so that you can feel safe going into people’s homes and we will provide you support through training and supervision.
We ask you to commit to a minimum of one visit to a client each week, ideally to the same family so that you can build relationships and demonstrate reliability. Where possible, we will roster visits on the same day and times each week.
If you are interested in taking this role on alongside another volunteer role, such as Befriender or Community Outreach, we would be more than happy to consider you for those you are interested in.
