Visitor Welcome Assistant

The National Trust aims to care for special places for ever for everyone.

We are a registered charity, completely independent of Government. We rely for income on membership fees, donations and legacies, and money raised from our commercial operations.

Our aim is to give every visitor a great day out. Visitor Welcome Volunteers provide a helpful and friendly service to ensure an enjoyable, memorable and positive experience for each visitor. This role can offer variety and the opportunity to learn new skills by getting involved in many activities, especially when the property is very busy.

What’s involved?

  • Providing a warm, friendly welcome to all visitors as the public face of the National Trust.

  • Being aware of the needs and arrangements for visitors, including disabled and family visitors.

  • Scanning membership cards, selling tickets, promoting membership, issuing maps and guides, describing points of interest and the various daily programmer activities available, providing directions, assisting with car parking and queue busting.
  • Dealing with any queries that may arise from visitors.

  • Acting as relief cover during lunch and tea breaks in Visitor Reception, ensuring the availability of guidebooks, helping customers to find what they’re looking for and drawing their attention to events or aspects of the property that may be of interest.
  • Manning temporary information points around the property, e.g. in the car park or on Goose Green during busy periods.

  • Helping welcome customers and queue busting in the cafe on busy days.

  • Developing a good knowledge of the property so that all visitors receive accurate and relevant information to enhance their visit
