This is an opportunity to work with hidden members of our society that have been affected by criminal trauma in some way. These are mostly family members and friends of offenders, who often feel isolated and can lose their support networks through the action of someone else. We are a non-judgmental organisation and will support them for as long as they need, either over the phone or in person, where required. AFFECT is based in Hampshire, focusing in the South of England and providing a telephone service across the UK.
We have vacancies for Befrienders to act in a listening role for new or existing members, to help reduce feelings of isolation, provide a friendly ear and act as a sign-poster to additional services that may be useful to them. This is a flexible role, where support offered is arranged dependent on volunteer and member availability. A full role description is available on application.
We provide a full induction, volunteer expenses and some training is available. As part of the team, we provide regular supervision. Interviews take place in May and November in Hampshire.
Able to be professional in manner and work in line with the ethos of AFFECT.
Have excellent listening skills.
Demonstrate administrative and organisational skills to organise sessions and maintain records.
Attend regular supervisions as required.
Desirable (but not essential): Experience of the court/prison/criminal system or supporting people.
