Walking Buddy

Sometimes people lose the confidence and the habit of going out unaccompanied.  This may be due to physical illness and deterioration,  a recent operation, e.g. hip replacement, a fall or anxiety.

Having a Walking Buddy who will walk with them, give an arm, if necessary, and provide reassurance and company may be the beginning of reconnecting with the neighbourhood and the community.

The walk may just be round the block or a couple of miles; each case will be different.

Essential:  Good communication skills. Rapport and empathy with vulnerable adults. Enthusiasm.  Common sense. Ability to walk a short distance and support another in doing  this

Desirable:  Dementia awareness (training can be given).
