The Sunday Lunch Club operates on the third Sunday of each month at the Benfleet Methodist church hall on the High Road.
Our clients are local residents many of whom have mobility issues although these are restricted to clients who, where necessary, are able to transfer from wheelchair to mini bus seat – with the norm being walking frames or sticks – many clients being able to get on and off the bus unaided.
We pick them up from their home and take them to the hall where they have a cup of tea, a chat with friends and a Sunday Lunch before being taken home again - for many clients this is the only time they get out. Volunteer drivers and kitchen assistants are invited to join us for lunch as part of our thanks for their assistance.
We are always in need of volunteers to help in the kitchen. We have lead cooks at both sites, so we need people to assist in basic preparation of food (preparing veg), setting and serving tables and washing up – hot drink before and after the meal, main course and desert for 40 people is a lot of pots! It is also important to ensure how clients are safe and comfortable – although we are not allowed to provide directly personal assistance or physical handling.
No qualifications are required just a willingness to get involved and chat with the guests.
