School Governors in Brighton & Hove

School governors form one of the largest volunteer groups in the country. Governing bodies are looking for people who can work strategically with senior leaders, as well as providing support and challenge. Governors attend meetings and carry out school visits in order to monitor educational standards, help set the vision for the school and approve the school budget.

Skills

Governors must be willing to learn, attend relevant training, contribute to discussions and have good interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills. Depending on the governing body, specific qualities could be leadership skills, experience of monitoring budgets, experience of working with children and families, or knowledge of the community.
