Sea-Change are looking for someone to act as the charity’s Treasurer. This will involve occasional help with book keeping (though that is usually covered by a part-time helper), as well as attendance at twice yearly trustee meetings in March and November and some activity in between to keep on top of events.
Sea-Change is a Maldon-based sail training charity and a member of ASTO (the Association of Sail Training Organisations), operating since 2007. The youngest people we sail with are 8 years of age and there is no upper age limit for our work with Dementia Adventure.
Sea-Change works with about 200 young people and vulnerable adults each year, living and working residentially aboard a Thames sailing barge. In the past the barge has been hired but in 2019, after a significant ten year appeal, Sea-Change commissioned Blue Mermaid the first full-sized sailing barge to be built for trade since the original she replicates was launched in 1930. Blue Mermaid is mainly used for our work now.
The vacancy has arisen because our current Treasurer (a retired chartered accountant) will leave us, after many years sterling service, at the next trustee meeting in March 2020.
Ideally you will have a background in accountancy and be able to advise good governance in this area. However, the type and level of qualification is less important than a hands-on approach and an interest in our work.
Given our planning for succession, this is also an opportunity to take the charity forward beyond the immediate future.Register your interest
